Children’s Museum of the Arts
Founded in 1988, the Children's Museum of the Arts (CMA) is one of the oldest children's arts museums in the world. Its mission is to extend the benefits of the arts to all children and their communities and to secure the future of the arts by inspiring and championing the next generation of artists and art lovers.
In October 2011, CMA officially opened its new facility at 103 Charlton Street in New York’s Hudson Square neighborhood. This new, 10,000 square foot space includes an expansive gallery, three studios, two Art Labs, a state-of-the-art media lab and sound station, and an archive for CMA’s permanent collection.
Beckelman+Capalino served as project manager for the Museum’s capital project, overseeing the full scope of work up until construction management. We collaborated with CMA leadership to establish the long and short term goals of the project, as well as a detailed plan for the Museum’s expansion. Other responsibilities were building the project team including the selection of the architect, developing budgets and timelines, and research and consulting on financing and fundraising. B+C worked with CMA leadership to successfully secure funding from the City for its new facility.
