Case Study: Artists Space

For more than three decades Artists Space has provided a forum for the work of emerging artists through exhibitions and programs in a variety of spaces in Lower Manhattan. The organization is examining its vision for the future, which has included the appointment of a new Executive Director and the issuance of a Request for Proposals for assistance in helping clarify and achieve this vision. In response to the issuance of the RFP, B+C was designated as Project Manager. One component being explored is relocation, which may be an answer to stabilizing the financial issues that have had a negative impact on the organization as a result of New York’s volatile real estate market. B+C is working with the Board and staff to analyze and articulate a broad Vision Plan and build consensus within the organization around how that plan will be executed. The firm is also working to evaluate the program and space utilization needs of Artists Space and will apply the results of that evaluation to the existing facility and to other spaces in Lower Manhattan that could accommodate both the physical and financial needs of the organization. B+C has identified several potential sites that meet Artists Space’s requirements and continues to help guide the organization to a decision.
